More block sanding is done to the car over all the exterior surfaces.

After the guide coat is block sanded, the Galaxie is cleaned and masked prepped for another coat of primer which will be wet sanded and then color application can begin!

This latest coat of primer is wet sanded to prepare it for color application.

Bottom sides of the hood and decklid were also prepped.

The car is cleaned and moved back into the booth for color. Painter Jeff elected to paint the roof separately, considering the factory trim is a convenient break point for the color and clear. This was easier for him to spray, making the process less risky.

New seam sealer was applied in the rain gutters.

Finally, the day came for color! Here, the roof of the Galaxie is sprayed in the dark blue metallic Axalta basecoat.

Once the proper flash time was allowed, the color was wiped down with a tack cloth and Axalta clear was applied.

Oh yeah, it’s looking sweet!

After the top clear is hardened, the Galaxie is “reverse masked” and the bottom of the car is cleaned, masked, and sprayed.

The blue sure looks deep!
