Exactly how I remember!

You know how these things escalate... "might as well syndrome" as we call it around here. What torque converter is in the car?

I went through a bunch of this in the epic thread "Project get my GTO back on the road" on the pre hacked V8TV forums.

I call it "mission creep". either way, it's just as insidious. I have the stock TH400 torque convertor right now. Have a pretty tall rear gear. Best guess is 2.93. It's an A/C car.

You have any recommendations regarding a torque converter?

I wouldn't go with a very high stall, just something with a little higher RPM grab to help get the engine in a more powerful rpm before it gets gagged by the converter. It would make a big difference.

Now that I think of it, my cousin might have something for you. We put a slightly higher stall TCI converter in the blue '65 Chevelle when it had a TH350, but has since been upgraded to a 700R4 with a lockup converter. The slightly used TCI unit might still be available on the cheap. I can ask.
