1969 Camaro in V8 Speed & Resto Shop

The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro is one of the iconic Muscle Cars, and we work on a lot of them in our shop.     Which is not to say that we don't work on other Classics and Muscle Cars, it's just that we've built some pretty stout 1969 Camaros over the years, so people know they can send us their projects for restoration, performance upgrades, or other needs.    This time, a complete, freshly-restored '69 arrived in the V8 Speed & Resto Shop after the owner drove the Shafiroff 540 cubic-inch Big Block Chevy powered beast and determined the car needed more traction.    We worked with the owner to make a list of improvements, including a complete Detroit Speed suspension system front and rear, some fuel injection modifications, exhaust upgrades, and some other items to make the car more enjoyable to the owner.    The challenge was to perform the modifications without damaging the car's beautiful silver paint!    Check out the photos to see the progess.

HydroboostWe install high performance braking systems on all the cars we build in the V8 Speed & Resto Shop one element that really makes a difference in braking performance is a hydraulic brake assist unit, more commonly known a a Hydroboost system.

A vacuum booster is used on most typical power brake systems, and they generally work OK to use engine vacuum to assist the driver in depressing the brake pedal, making the brakes easier to apply. However, factors such as long-duration camshafts with low-vacuum generating characteristics and minimal underhood clearance with large engines limit the vacuum booster's effectiveness.

A Hydroboost unit relies on hydraulic pressure generated by the vehicle's power steering pump to apply tremendously increased brake pressure without relying on engine vacuum. A vacuum booster can generate 7-800 lbs of brake system pressure at the calipers, while a Hydroboost unit can generate over 2000 psi with the same amount of pedal input from the driver. The difference is staggering. In addition, the Hydroboost units are smaller in diameter, so they package easier in engine bays with tight clearance.

This complete suspension module is available with a 59.5" track width and is ready to be subbed into your application with the 2” x 4” rail sections. These are the same suspension systems found in DSE’s bolt-in front frames so they have been designed, engineered, and developed to provide the ultimate in performance on both the road and the track.

Allstar Corvette Master

Corvette style master cylinders have been popular for years as they are a great part to help you convert your drum / drum or disc / drum braking system to a 4-wheel disc system.

Dual reservoir master cylinders have 1" bores, outlet ports on both sides for easy plumbing and installation. Popular master cylinders are used with disc/disc and disc/drum applications. Slotted mounting holes on 3-1/4" centers work well with Allstar 7" and 8" brake boosters.
