1965 Chevelle Blog #3: The New SS Body
When we started this project, we wanted to build a clone of a 1965 Chevelle SS.   Little did we know that the body and frame of the first car would be too rusty to build, so we obtained a parts car and a 2-door hardtop from Arizona.    It turns out that the 2-door is a real '65 Chevelle SS!   So now we're taking the 3 cars and building one with the help of the Original Parts Group.   This time, we just finished tranplsanting the rusty dash from one car to the other.

Spiro Pappas Camaro Update
Long-time street car drag racer Spiro Pappas already has one of the fastest street-legal drag '69 Camaros in the world, but for 2008, he's added a second car to the lineup... and this one is off the scale.     Powered by a 540 cubic inch Sonny Leonard hemi-headed big block Chevy assembled by Fast Times Motorworks, the focal point is the pair of 88mm turbos on the front of the engine.    No horsepower ratings are public, but driver Nick Scavo points out that it should crack 2500 horsepower without minimal boost!

1965 Chevelle Blog #2: Parts Car Adventure
Sorting through the "yuck" in the 4-door parts car we got to help rebuild our 1965 Chevelle.   It was nasty!

1966 GTO Blog #4 - Shifting Gears
We spent many hours and days contemplating how to make the giant 6L80E 6-speed automatic transmission fit under the '66 GTO, but it looks like the surgery required will push this car well beyond its deadline and budget.     While it is a cool transmission, the 6L80E is simply enourmous, and in order to make it fit under the car, we'd have to cut the entire floor out and fab a whole new tunnel, raise the enigine, and try to make it clear the hood.    We simply don't have the time.   So, after a chat with Mark Bowler of Bowler Performance Transmissions, the choice was made to switch to a GM 4L65E, a 4-speed automatic trans that is a much easier fit to the car.

Kelle's 1954 Truck Blog #7: 12V Alternator
We're in the midst of a 12-volt conversion upgrade on the '54 and installing a GM 10SI style alternator.    You have to either change all the electrical devices - bulbs, battery, etc., to 12 volts, or install some sort of step-up converter to make them work right.     Here, Kevin rambles about the 1 vs. 3 wire alternator styles.

Kelle's '54 Chevy Truck Blog #6: Ignition
This time, we're upgrading Kelle's old ignition system with a swap-meet find, a vintage MSD box, which we're going to use to power the coil, rather than the power running through the ignition points.    It also helps the coil by storing energy and relasing it as quickly as the coil needs the juice.  However, when you find an old electronics part, how do you know it works?    We show you how to test an MSD box with their Digital Ignition Tester to see what's up.    Then, Kelle's 235 6-banger will enjoy the multiple spark benefits of the MSD, but it still looks old-school, 'cause it is.

1971 Olds "S71" Dash Panel Repair
The original dash panel was pretty rusty on our 1971 Olds "S71" project.   These cars tended to hold water and moisture under the stainless windshield trim, and that would cause big rust holes to form under the trim, and then the driver's feet would get wet.    The sheet metal to repair this area is not yet reproduced, so we contacted Desert Valley Auto Parts to have a section removed from a rust-free parts car to install in our Oldsmobile.

Kelle's '54 Chevy Truck Blog #5: Speed Mods
Kelle's prepping her 1954 Chevy Truck for some speed runs once the 3-speed trans is rebuilt and the brakes are all back together.

1971 Olds "S71" Quarter Panel Repair
The quarter panels were next on the list of repairs on the "S71" Olds project.   We were contemplating this area for a while, as the original steel had some rust in the wheel well lip and along the bottom edge, but it was otherwise in great shape.    We elected to do a minimally-invasive repair and use part of a replacement quarter panel skin from YearOne to do the job.

Kelle's '54 Chevy Truck Blog #4 - Floor It!
Kelle's '54 Chevy truck is becoming more solid by the day.    This time, resto tech Randy Stange patches up the rusty floor in an unconventional act of auto recycling.   All we can say is that the Camaro crowd may not like this one.   In reality, no re-usable body panels were hurt in this fix, but the steel will go on living in the truck, and that's what really matters, right?   The kick panels are gettin' the fix as well.    Say goodbye to the Flintstone brakes!

1969 Chevelle "SS496" Blog 61: Fixing Details
The SS496 Chevelle project is still in the shop, but its completion is coming soon.     Today we addressed a few minor details that popped up after the initial SEMA build thrash, namely a leaking power steering pump reservoir and chasing a bizarre missing ground in the dash.    When we saw we could dim the high beams with the dash gauge dimmer, we knew we had a problem.    Luckily, that's all fixed now.    We still have to get the convertible top installed and do a wheel alignment, but this monster is almost ready for the road!
