Title: 2008 Chevrolet Impala SS Post by: ramonetx on July 18, 2008, 04:37:49 AM Does anybody know what else i could do to increase horsepower other than a cold air intake or a new exhaust?
Title: Re: 2008 Chevrolet Impala SS Post by: Kevin O on July 18, 2008, 06:50:36 AM Your SS is powered by a GM 5.3 liter V8, which means there are many ways to increase power... it all depends on how much you want to spend! You mentioned the cold air kit and exhaust... two good places to start. To take full advantage of those, go have the car chassis dyno tuned to dial in the air / fuel ratio with the new parts.
Next, you can look to some more involved upgrades. I don't know off the top of my head if anyone is making headers for these cars, but I would assume so. They would help performance. The intake manifold is pretty good on the stocker, unless you want to go to a supercharger or a turbo kit, which would bring big power gains. Again, I'm not sure about bolt-on kits for the transverse 5.3, but anything could be fabricated! Your biggest problem is going to be traction. Check into a hand-held programmer like the Diablosport Predator to firm-up the transmission strategy, which can help 1/4 mile times and make the car more responsive. We have not done much with these cars, but are looking forward to learning more.
