Sad thing isn't it Graham.  Shop Girls are a rare bread.  We definately have to find more and recognize them for their talents.
It is such a great way to bond with your guy and learn something new.  I highly recommend all you men to get your daughters in the shop with you when they are young and teach them wrench sizes, what a hammer is, how to change a flat tire when they turn 16 and many many other tasks that are perfectly suited for girls.  Knowing a little is better than knowing nothing at all.

I worked with lawyers for 13 years and totally believe this story.  Ridiculous what a waste of time and money lawyers cause.  Wouldn't it be better if we just put the plaintiff and defendant on a drag strip and make them race to the finish to see who wins. - sounds like much more fun to me.

Way to Go Lisa! I'm impressed and know all to well how hard you must be working.  Looking forward to seeing you at SEMA.

I direct this one to two of our V8TV heros.  Nick Scavo knows all about putting a huge powerful motor in caged cars, and the guy that helped us build the frame horns on the Camaro but also does a lot of 4x4 frame modification work.  I'll tell both of them about this link and see if we can get you some answers.
Thanks for checking with us.

The product is made by Standox.  I think its just called Sprayable Polyester. It might also say 1K on it.
I don't know a product number, but I know it only comes in quarts and runs somewhere around 50.00 a quart.
The stuff is magical and sands like a dream!  Good luck.
51  V8TV General Hang Out / Truck Stop / Re: V8TV New Shop Truck on: October 09, 2007, 09:16:43 PM
It saddens me to hear of wives and girlfriends "hating" a guys ride.  If they would learn to at least enjoy a ride in the car, the entire relationship would be better.  In my case, cars helped me bond with my dad and brother and now with my husband.  The Galaxie we have tends to break down on the side of the road, in the middle of nowhere 10 miles from Smalltown USA and it is up to him and I to get us where we need to go.  Sure it is scary, but it is a huge bonding, relationship building experience.  It only makes us stronger to work together and get back on the road.  And along the way we meet some of the most amazing, nicest, most helpful people that we will never forget.
We are thrashing on the Chevelle for SEMA right now in the shop, but after about November 15, my truck is becoming top priority so I'll be checking out stovebolt and on this thread much more frequently seeking advice once I'm totally sunk into the trunk.
There won't be any torch work done to the truck unless I absolutely can't get a bolt loose.  It is staying original with just safety modifications and a radio - I love the old truck look, I can't drive it down the rock road to the shop in the snow if it were lowered so that idea is way out.  Its for hauling parts, not looking cool.
Thanks for the tip on the bar and chain oil in the breather.  I'll get that from my dad after helping him cut wood for the winter.
Nothing is free.
I'll be posting more videos of the truck soon!  Stay tuned and thanks again for the tips.

Glad you like the stock look, I know most people say the underneath is never seen so why put all that time into but we firmly believe if you are going to do something, anything, do it right.... And we don't want anyone putting that car on a lift and saying "who the #$!$%$^ put this piece together.
Glad you appreciate the efforts.
53  V8TV General Hang Out / Truck Stop / Re: V8TV New Shop Truck on: October 04, 2007, 09:31:34 AM
Thanks for the compliments - way to generous but thank you.  Honestly my truck is a bit worn out, but I love it.  I have been working to hard on the V8TV SEMA project car the SS496 Chevelle to spend much time on my own truck, but after SEMA I'll make that truck my winter project and get it on the road in no time.
Sounds like you know a lot about the trucks - can you tell me if that straight six is capable of going 60 without shaking the tires off the rims?  Its got to go at least 60 to be safe driving around here.  If it can't do it, I'm gonna have to rip it out and significantly increase the power plant.
I've made Stovebolt.com a favorite website of mine to check out frequently for tips and tricks - thanks!
I fully believe any woman can do what I do - they just don't want to - which is soooo unfortunate.  To those women who are angy at their men for working on cars all the time, I wish they would work with the guys - not against them.
Thanks for stopping by the Truck Stop.

Graham,
I figured Nick was looking over your shoulder and saw you type lol and thought he could try it out.

Get off the computer and back to work on that 454 motor for the Chevelle, I gotta come up there next week and shoot you putting it together and run out of the room when you dyno it.

Thanks for coming to the forum hope to see you here often with cool updates on fast motors at Fast Times.

Nick
Grab Brandon, get in the car and get down here by Sunday morning 6:00 am,  we got some wet sanding for Brandon to do!  I'll have breakfast with jelly ready.
Do send pics of this car you are working on - if it makes some record speeds I might have you build a motor for my 54 Chevy!!

Hope to see you very soon.

Theresa,
Thanks for the vote of confidence and for being accessable when we do the install.  There aren't many manufacturers that are so willing to be helpful!

Theresa
Welcome to the V8TV Forum!  We really appreciate your contributions to the forum.  We are really excited to have AAW involved with our SEMA project car the SS496.  Kevin tells me the harness will be here in a few days so I'm getting prepared to fit under the dash for a few days getting the gauges and wiring all hidden nicely.  Sometimes its unfair being the one with the smallest hands in the shop, I get stuck in the most uncomfortable places.

Stay tune to the forum and the SS496 blogs for the install of the AAW harness - its sure to have some tips, tricks and with me involved, some thing funny is sure to happen.
58  V8TV General Hang Out / Non-Auto Related / Calling all Shop Girls on: September 13, 2007, 11:33:21 AM
Hey girls!
I wanna hear from you guys about your shop projects.  What are you working on?  Is it your own project, or are you helping your man?  Did you learn from Dad or are you learning as you go?  What is your favorite shop work and your least favorite?

For me, I learned from my dad and brother and continue learning from my husband and friends.  I'm not so fond of block sanding but I really like welding and typically I enjoy the things the guys want nothing to do with...details.  I work on all the cars featured on V8TV from welding to body work and everything in between.  I've got a 54 Chevy truck I'm doing a minor tune up on and that will be the V8TV shop truck and let me haul feed and bedding for all my animals.

If you have questions I can help with, let me know I've got a great group of guys backing me up and they are all really smart in many different areas so if I don't know the answer, I'll do what I can to get the answer from a knowledgeable source.

If there are any guys reading this, worship your Shop Girl - she is rare and hard to find.
59  V8TV General Hang Out / Truck Stop / V8TV New Shop Truck on: September 13, 2007, 11:05:14 AM
I just picked up a 1954 Chevy Pickup Truck to get me from the house to the shop.  Kevin got a little tired of me hauling duck food and straw bales in our daily driver so we got an old truck.  We are considering putting a bicycle in the bed of the truck to get me home, "just in case".  I gotta learn to drive a 3 on the tree but the tune up should be easy.  I just hope the straight 6 can handle my lead foot.  I see an upgrade in the motor coming soon.
The plan for the truck is to "keep it simple"  It's a low buck truck.  Meaning, I'm not painting it, I totally love the light petinaed look.
The very much rotted out cab corners are going to get rivets and aluminum patches.  A good pressure wash, a little tune up and away I go.  Since we are on the SEMA grind, the truck is quickly becoming a winter project.
So how bout it guys.  Do any of you have a daily driver beater truck your wife makes you drive so you don't get the minivan dirty?
Show me pics, give me pointers, tips, tricks to making my 54 stay on the road, low budget, but cool.
I hope to get some footage of the truck on line in a few days - keep checking back and keep on truckin!
