We're hittin' the road!

So we're taking our '62 Ford Galaxie 500XL ragtop on a cross-country trip, and you can come along.   Well, sorta.   We not only plan on posting lots of videos from the road, but we're going to try to post up a real-time map that shows our position across the country so you can follow along.    If the pins stop moving somewhere, we broke down, and you're welcome to come and help us out!    We plan on leaving the midwest this Thursday, September 24 and heading West to the Phoenix, AZ area.     Here's the first couple videos leading up to the departure!

This was from tonight...

And this from last Friday.

More to come!

Thanks LODI3QTR and Matt!

Believe me, this was just a quickie trip thrown together, but we've got some cool stuff planned.   Hopefully the weather cooperates!   We've got about 20 hours to planned departure time, and the Galaxie is still in a thousand pieces.   Rebuilding the e-brake system, Nathan just sprayed the restored steering wheel, and a million other little annoyances need to be fixed before we head out.   You know the drill.  Nothing major, though.    We'll keep you posted!

There's nothing better than going on an extended road trip. I am sure all the prep work you are doing to the car will pay off, so cheer up and save the curses for when something actually breaks.  Grin Enjoy the ride!

Gotta love roadtrips!!! Wife and I did one back in July from central Calif to the N-Eastern most tip of Texas. Ended up in Oklahoma to hit I-40 coming home seeking out every Route66 detour we could find!  Grin We had an absolute blast!

Come late April we're going back starting in San Bernadino at the WigWam hotel and taking 2 1/2 weeks to drive to Chicago on Route66 in our 69 Camaro. (The trip to Texas was in our 99 Camaro)

I have family in Phx so if you get into trouble there let me know. (I'll PM my phone number to you)

Have fun and drive safe

Thanks for the support guys!   We're getting closer to being ready for shove-off, still finalizing the e-brake retrofit project... since we converted the car to discs, the rear discs never had a working e-brake and the front pedal cable is damn near frozen.    The steering wheel is nearly hardened and ready for install, and the other little stuff is coming along.    We'll be up 'till midnight again I bet!

Good luck with the trip. Before I saw the video I was hoping you were heading this way towards the eastcoast , But no love for east.  I'll be watching, it sounds very interesting.

This is Kelle.  We were up till midnight but the car is ready to go, however we aren't.  I'm taking care of last minute business stuff, then I have to pack.  Kevin is still sleeping and its raining.  We plan to leave this morning, I'll bet its no sooner than 9:00 am before we hit the road.  Updates to come soon.  Thanks everyone for your good wishes!

Here's the video from last night at the shop... we completed nearly all the little projects we needed to fix, save for the new convertible top switch not coming in the mail in time.   And I put the steering wheel on about two splines to the left, so straight ahead is now the wheel turned to 2:00.    Bummer.   But you cannot fix all the annoyances, or it would lose its character, right?

We'll be hitting the road soon... more updates to come!
