Check out this mini feature video of our buddy Otto's latest creation.  A traditional hot rod consisting of a Dodge cab, a vintage Olds motor, and a 49 Ford tail section grafted together with a menacing aggressive look.

Otto's been building hot rods for years and claims cars like this are the most fun cause they have no rules.  Unfortunately, he might be a little hard to hear cause the iPhone mic sucks but just seeing the car is worth it.

Stopped for dinner at the Crown Railroad Cafe in Flagstaff, AZ.   It's important to check out local independent establishments and to get away from the chain places on trips like these.   The Crown Railroad Cafe opened in 1961 and features a bunch of model trains circling overhead.    The real trains go by outside across the road, loaded with double-stacked freight cars bringing you all your stuff.     The food at the Crown Railroad Cafe is outstanding, and is well worth the visit.

K&K,

You all are going through Sedona on your way from Flagstaff to Phoenix aren't you?  It will certainly be a highlight of your trip. Right out of Flagstaff, take the road that takes you through Oak Creek Canyon and Sedona. The most beautiful contry in the west.  It is breathtaking.  You won't be sorry, and it's right on your way.

Best Wishes,

Kevin,

Most of the trains you are seeing across 40 are from the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, some of the bussiest ports in the world.  The ones you see headed East are usually full of cargo, while the occasional ones you see headed West are mostly empty containers headed back to Asia. The ports of LA and LB are the primary entry point for import goods into the US.

Hey guys,

We arrived at our distination safely, and spent the day fixing that steering leak and a couple other little annoyances.. we'll post the wrap-up video tomorrow.   And good news, we're going to be picking this car up in March of 2010 to return it to our neck of the woods, so another road trip with the Galaxie will be planned... maybe this time we'll plan on having some others cruise with us!

More to come..

Great to see Otto on the road trip itinerary..!!!!!  Otto's a great friend and hell of a 'rod builder.  He does everything "right", also..!   I've personally driven some of his creations and they drive even better than they look.  A true testament to a phenomenal rod builder.

Hope you guys got to sample some of the green chile while you were out here, KO...  next time don't be so secretive - we'll have to make it a party..!

Here's the wrap-up video on our fall road trip.  Thanks to all who passed along well wishes and joined us on the web... it was alot of fun posting the videos and reading the comments.   Next time we'll plan it more in advance and try to take in more sights and cool stuff.. providing the car doesn't need "attention" on the road!

I don't think they'll be up for having the kickoff at their place, Matt!    I'm thinking Kelle and I will come out to AZ, grab the car, then head to LA for a few days and take care of some biz (beach!), then start the trip from there!

Kev,

Great to see you all made it safely to the Valley of the Sun. Road trips provide us with endless memories. When I was 12 Dad packed up the family in our '61 Catalina wagon and we spent the next month cruising the West Coast up to Washington camping and fishing. Then we return via the inland route.

Thanks for sharing...

Hey Dave,

That must have been a great trip.    While going though a bunch of old boxes at my parents' house, I found a slide of my dad's original '62 Galaxie taken in Montana in July of '62.   I'll post it up when I get back and can scan it.   Very cool.   We're looking forward to hitting the road again soon!

Looks like a great trip, glitches and all.  Next time, you'll have to come east via Chicago and hit some of your old haunts.  It'll be your own V8TV power tour!
