Here is the thinking.

Whether you push, pull, or power around depends on what rig you own. Each has it benefits and detractors.  Front wheel drive gives you traction. Rear wheel drive gives you towing and hauling prowess. A proper 4X4 gets you out of whatever muck you can find yourself.  But, when I look down at my transfer lever I only have four choices.  Four high and low, Two high and neutral.  This can poise...issues.

During the summer I can tool around in rear wheel drive just nicely with never a thought in a turn.  The other eleven and a half months of the year is a different story all together.  Form a dead stop in order to prevent wheel spin I have to a) run studs, b) place several pounds of fuel drinking sand in the bed, or c) engage the 4 wheel high. Things get worse when a turn is required with a dead stop take off.  Making a turn at any speed above 5 MPH is like shooting dice and the house wins more often than not. Normally I do a combo of studs and 4WD. Which of course lowers the fuel mileage.

So here is my solution....maybe.

Why can I not have more choices?  In my son's 89 K1500 I would like to find a way to have a fifth choice.  4WD, high and low and 2WD both front or rear as well as neutral.  Neutral does have it's uses believe it or not.

So, any ideas as to how this can happen?  I was talking to a local 4WD clubber and he said it could be done with a NP205, but he had never done it nor seen it done and doesn't know how it is accomplished.

Found the transfer case that will do the job.  It is the Atlas II.  The embarrassing part is the fact I had book marked their site months ago and had not got around to reading it.

Thanks anyway.
