Holley Somernites Power Cruise 2008
3/16/2008

Bowling Green, KY--Looking for something to do in Kentucky the weekend prior to the Nats? Check out the Holley Somernites Powercruise in the quaint little town of Somerset, KY.

The Holley Somernites Power Cruise will be leaving from five locations heading for the popular cruise destination of Somerset, KY where it will meet up with 1,500 other cars who regularly converge on the historic city square one weekend per month throughout the summer. The tour legs will be leaving the morning of July 26th from Knoxville, TN; Cincinnati, OH, Bowling Green, KY, Manchester, KY and Louisville, KY that morning on the 26th. Specific locations and times can be found at www.somernitescruise.com

“The Somernites Cruise has become a huge attraction over the last few years in our home state of Kentucky”, said Holley’s Director of Marketing, Bill Tichenor. “It really is a national type event drawing cars from all over the east coast, but it still has that small town appeal. We had over 600 cruisers last year and that was in bad weather. In total there were over 2,000 cars in Somerset. Once in town, a cruise-in is held in the historic downtown. When the downtown cruise-in is over, the event continues on the strip where cars cruise well into the night. You’ll see everything from street rods, to muscle cars to slammed trucks. It’s just about car enthusiasts enjoying cars. We’re really proud of the folks over in Somerset. They’ve done it right and we’ve decided to join in for a second year”, said Tichenor.

Holley will give away door prizes from each of their performance divisions including Weiand intakes, Hooker Headers, NOS Nitrous, Earl’s Plumbing, and FlowTech Exhaust throughout the event.

Somerset sits at the end of the Cumberland Parkway on the edge of the Daniel Boone National Forest, near Lake Cumberland and the Cumberland Falls State Resort Park. There are scenic routes or you can take parkways and interstates back to Louisville. Just don’t wait too long to make your reservations, as the town will be totally sold out of rooms.

We'll be out shooting the 2008 Somernites Power Cruise this weekend, joining the leg that kicks off at the Holley Block Party in Bowling Green, KY on Friday night.    They've got live bands, car show, food & drinks, so it should be a cool event.   Then the Cruise is Saturday morning heading into Somerset, KY, for the main event.    See you on the road!    (If you can't make it, we're making DVDs available after the event... you can pre-order one online.. click the picture below...)

I grabbed these shots of a slick '67 GS while at the Somernites Power Cruise last month. Neil Pate built this Air Ride equipped, Buick 400 powered sled to surf the highways. Cool car, thought I'd share the snaps.
