Inside The Racheting Column Shifter... The Real Story

Over the years, Nick Scavo's 1965 Impala has been the subject of much speculation regarding the tricks hidden under the skin of the big black sled.   One hot topic is the "ratcheting column shifter", where it was reported that Nick had fabbed up a ratchet shifter that was actuated by the column shifter.    Nick will tell you that it's not true... the column was modified, but did not contain a ratchet shifter.   Rather, Nick modified the shift gate and the spring roller in the trans to make it work.   Here's a Scavo-penned diagram on how to do it yourself.

As a bonus, we found some old video of the Impala in action the NMCA World Finals race in Memphis, as well as on the Hot Rod Power Tour back in the day.    It looks to be a VHS transfer, so the quality isn't too great, but it's fun to watch!    Love that B/W LCD laptop screen!

And what was inside the box?

The rules said "4 barrels", but didn't say how they could be arranged...

Plus the rules stated we had to run a plate nitrous system, not a fogger, so we made the plate you see, it sprayed nitrous right down each runner, but it was all mounted to a plate.... I like rules, so I can find out how far they bend Roll Eyes
