Hot Wheels will turn 40 this year, and to commemorate its iconic
anniversary, the toy’s maker hosted a makeover competition. Automakers
were asked to submit ideas combining their own brand with the toy’s
motto of power, speed and performance. With no rules, federal
regulations, speed limits or limits on prices, six designers came up
with a slew of ideas inspired from both childhood memories and previous
collections. Chevrolet designer Amaury Diaz Serrano came up with the
Chevroletor, a vehicle inspired by Serrano’s own Hot Wheels collection
and the 1957 Corvette SS. Other top designs included Ford’s Gangster
Grin, the Dodge XP-07, the Honda Racer and Mitsubishi’s Double Shotz.

Each year, the automakers build concept cars to gauge the public reaction and to create a buzz for their brand. Here's some of the latest including the GMC Denali XT Sport-Utility Hybrid.

Bloggers and car aficionados write that the V8 is a dying breed, and the eco-force would have us feel guilty for driving anything other than a hybrid, but at Ford, Dodge, Chevy, and Audi, the performance car is alive and well, and the 2008 and 2009 model years may be remembered not just for the greening of our garages, but also for a resurgence in modern muscle cars and high performance driving.

[15-Jan-2008] Environmentally friendly sports and performance vehicles take center stage at this year’s North American International Auto Show as automakers prove that you don’t have to drive a gas guzzler to step on the pedal. While manufactures are focusing on taking consumers close to 200 miles per hour, others are figuring out ways to make high horsepower a little more responsible. Two examples include the Corvette ZR-1. Built entirely of lightweight material, aluminum, magnesium, and carbon fiber, it has one of the best fuel economies in its class. The Cadillac CTS V is 550 Horsepower and 550 pound feet of torque.

[08-Jan-2008] During the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, General Motors (GM) will showcase one of its latest projects – a vehicle that can operate without a driver. GM indicates vehicles that can park and drive themselves will give passengers the ability to multi-task and will also help reduce traffic congestion, save energy and reduce emissions. Currently, several outlets including GM, technology companies, university engineers and others are working on various self-driving options. GM’s self-driving Chevrolet Tahoe, nicknamed the “Boss,” was developed by the Carnegie Mellon University Tarton Racing Team, and was initially unveiled during the DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) Urban Challenge in November 2007. During a Jan. 8 address at CES by CEO Rick Wagoner, GM will also debut the petroleum-free Cadillac Provoq concept vehicle.

We do alot of interviews at V8TV, and as hard as we try to be all-encompassing, most of the questions come from our heads only. So, we're launching a new series on our site called "20 Questions With.. the You-Call-It Interview". http://www.v8tvshow.com/forum/index.php?board=26.0 It's pretty simple - we post a thread with an interview subject, and if you have something you'd like to ask that person or would like to know, just post it in the thread. When we reach 20 questions, we'll do the interview and include your question. The interview will be either a phone or video deal, whatever we can work up in the time frame, and then we'll post it right in our forum.
