The 1969 Chevelle "SS496" came to the V8TV shop a bass boat green SS clone with a full load of hidden issues. Besides the gauges mounted all over the dash, the cluttered under hood area, and the out-of-tune 454, the Chevelle was hiding inches-thick body filler, rusty floors, bashed quarter panels, and more. We completely restored this car and added cool upgrades like tubular suspension, big brakes, all new sheet metal and paint, a trick leather interior, and a 496 stroker big block Chevy engine with hidden nitrous oxide! Follow the build videos below from start to finish, including the reveal at the SEMA show in Las Vegas!

Everyone uses ARP fasteners, but to they ever tell you WHY? We realized that the first 30 pages of the ARP catalog are loaded with tech and info on everything you could want to know about fasteners and how they're measured, rated, and tested.

The SS496 Chevelle project is still in the shop, but its completion is coming soon. Today we addressed a few minor details that popped up after the initial SEMA build thrash, namely a leaking power steering pump reservoir and chasing a bizarre missing ground in the dash. When we saw we could dim the high beams with the dash gauge dimmer, we knew we had a problem. Luckily, that's all fixed now. We still have to get the convertible top installed and do a wheel alignment, but this monster is almost ready for the road!

So what do you do when you can't get the alignment right on your GM "A" body musclecar? If your new tires tip inward at the top even with no alignment shims, perhaps you need to get some offset upper control arm shafts like these from Global West.

We completely restored this 1969 Chevelle, taking it from "bass boat" green to the original color, replacing much of the original sheet metal and adding some key upgrades. We installed a Global West front suspension, Baer brakes, Hydratech Hydroboost unit, OPGI lowering springs, Vintage Wheel Works wheels, and a 550 HP Fast Times built 496 big block Chevy engine. It's loaded with Royal Purple synthetic fluids, and breathes through MagnaFlow exhaust. The car debuted at the SEMA show, and has been logging miles ever since.
