The complete 1969 Chevelle Weblog series. Here you'll find all of our weblogs relating to the complete transformation of this 1969 Chvelle SS496 convertible. These blogs are supplimental content to the V8TV television episodes. We tend to put the really detialed stuff in the TV show, and give you a "behind the scenes" look at what we're doing with these short blogs. Some are fairly large files, so please be patient if they don't start right away.

The vast majority of body filler has been spread all over this car, and now the crew is sanding the filler down to a paper-thin layer of smooth and straight 1969 Chevelle. Nobody likes this part of the game... it's when you loose your fingerprints and get dust in your ears. But it's what it takes to make a car stright. Next comes a layer of spray polyester to fill the final scratches and sanding nicks. Oh yeah, and then more sanding!

We're test-fitting a new product from Dynamat - they're going to be selling pre-cut kits for various cars, and we're testing the kit for the 1968-1972 GM "A" bodies. We like to use Dynamat sound deadoner products in our cars as they not only knock out noise, but they also reduce heat trasmitted through body panels. We'll have a full feature on the install on an upcoming episode of V8TV. For now, here's the first trial fit.

We're working the body of our 1969 Chevelle "SS496" project from both ends. With the quarter panels welded solid, one team begins the body filler process on the rear of the car to finesse the panels into perfect shape. On the front of the car, new sheetmetal from The Paddock is hung to replace the dented-up originals.

Tonight's update brings you more sanding in the wheel tubs, filler on the quarters, and the first test fitting of our new front fenders from The Paddock. These are a new reproduction, and they make restoring a '68 and '69 Chevelle much easier!

Installing quarter panels and wheeltubs is a challenging adventure, especially if new parts aren't made for your application. In this installment, we modify 1969 Chevelle hardtop quarter panels and install them on our 1969 Chevelle convertible, as the ragtop parts are not made yet. It's an interesting process, but the results look great.

The main floor of our 1969 Chevelle has been replaced, and this time, we are installing a new trunk floor and tail pan from Goodmark Industries to replace our rusty originals.

We've finished welding up the quarter panels on the 1969 Chevelle "SS496" project. John used a MIG welder for the factory-style spot welds, and a TIG welder to seam the new panel to the original. You see, there are no reproduciton 1969 Chevelle convertible panels, so we had to modify a pair of hardtop panels to work. Now it's bodywork and sanding time!

The passenger side quarter panel is now screwed into place, waiting for final welding. Here you can also see the drvier side weelhouse coming together. The complete quarter panel and wheelhouse installation will be an episode of V8TV, so look for it on the TV show and also in the Project Cars section under 1969 Chevelle SS496.
