Here's a sneak peek at the '68 Camaro with the Toyo Proxes T1 Sport
tires mounted on the Rocket Racing Booster wheels as the guys complete
the interior install. Next up is the final detail and buff job, and
then it's off to the show!
http://www.v8tvshow.com - Wheels & tires make up a huge part of how a car looks and performs, and we're running some cool ones on this Camaro! Check out the Rocket Racing Booster wheels done in polished lip / gray face for a nostalgic look, and the killer redlined tires! The tires were redlined by Diamond Back Classics, and the process vulcanizes the red stripe to the side wall, meaning it won't peel off or rub like paint. It's part of the tire. Cool stuff!
Today we thought we'd let you hear the 490 in the '68 Camaro for a bit, and it sounds killer. It's a stroked 454 with an Eagle crank and rods, JE pistons, Holley oval port heads, a Weiand Stealth intake manifold, FAST EZ-EFI fuel injection, MSD Digital E-Curve distributor and MSD wires, Moroso fabricated valve covers, Hooker headers, and a Vintage Air Frontrunner serpentine system. But the real star is the Comp Thumpr hydraulic roller camshaft kit... (PN COMP K01-600-8). This thing sounds like a top fuel car! More on this engine in an upcoming video, but here's a taste. We love the super-fast throttle response of the EZ-EFI and this Comp Thumpr. Cool.
Tonight, Nathan completed the wetsnading process and the 3M Perfect-It buffing process, and man does this car shine! The BASF Glasurit clear looks like you dipped the car in liquid metal. It's unreal.
We painted the '68 over the weekend, here's a sneak peek at the car right after the Glasurit clear was sprayed. Today, Nathan is wetsanding and buffing it to a mirror-like shine!
Today, Nathan and the crew are hard at work on the post-painting steps to making our 1968 Camaro "Reloaded" gleam like a show car. The process starts with a through wet sanding of the BASF Glasurit clear coat, knocking down any surface imperfections and also "burying" the stripes in the clear. This means that the stripes will not be detectable if you run your hand over them. Nathan will also be using the 3M Denibbing tool to remove large paint "nibs". The next steps will be more wetsanding with the 3M Trizact system, and finally buffing with the 3M Perfect-It system.
http://www.v8tvshow.com - Greetings from the paint booth! We've just finished spraying the multiple coats of BASF Glasurit "Reloaded" Silver, and now it's time to lay out the charcoal stripes on this bad '68 Camaro. We've got 14 days left to finish this car.
While installing the MSD Super Conductor 8.5 MM spark plug wires, we took a minute to measure the electrical resistance of these wires and compare them to stock. We found them to have nearly 100 times less resistance than stock wires… pretty amazing.
Today Nathan and crew began to hang the front sheetmetal for the last time. These doors, fenders, inner fenders, and other parts have previously been fit to the car, but were removed to paint the jamb areas. Today, the crew is re-fitting them to prep the car for final Glasurit paint on the outside surfaces.
The '68 Camaro moved under it's own power today after Nick nearly finished the MagnaFlow tail pipes - the ends still need to be trimmed - and we drove the car into the sanding room to install the sheet metal and get it ready for final color and clear. The Comp Cams Thumpr Cam sounds killer, and the MagnaFlow pipes and mufflers roar. It's not going to be a car you can sneak around in!
In this update, Nick is working on the custom MagnaFlow 2.5" stainless steel exhaust system for our '68 Camaro. The system needed some modifications to clear the Detroit Speed Quadralink rear, but it's all coming together nicely. And Kelle opened the shop to 2 of every animal on the planet.
http://www.v8tvshow.com - We had reason to celebrate today in the V8TV shop, as the FAST EZ-EFI fueled 490 cube big block Chevy V8 roared to life. We pulled out the picture of NASA Flight Director Gene Kranz for good luck, and it worked!
Tonight we decided to shoot the daily update in HD to show off the cool looking MSD Ignition spark plug wires and other items we added to this car. 31 days until delivery when this was shot.
Last update, we cut Nick off before his final word of wisdom… this time, he gets another chance. We also take a closer look at the Be Cool radiator and cooling module charged with keeping our 490 cube big-block happy in the '68 Camaro.
Although this Camaro is in the home stretch, it's been under construction for just over a year. Today the V8TV crew installed the radiator core support, the Shiftworks 4L80E shifter retrofit kit, and about 100 feet of wiring.
We have had sort of an identity crisis with our '68 Camaro. We initially named it "Commotion," but later learned that the name was already used on a '69 Camaro by Classic Industries. In this update, we learn more about custom car names and the new name given to our '68!
The new correct big block Chevy Camaro engine stands arrived from Classic Industries, and now the 490 fits in the subframe without hitting the firewall. We're also moving forward on the FAST EZ-EFI install. It's a good day.
Our Camaro is fitted with a Detroit Speed & Engineering Quadralink rear suspension system, which can create some challenges regarding our upcoming MagnaFlow exhaust placement. In this update, we show you the beginnings of our solution by modifying our fuel tank.
