Junkyards… or should we say, “Old Parts Goldmines”, are an essential resource when putting an old car back together, and there are some really great yards in the dry climates where the cars never rusted.

We made a trip to Desert Valley Auto Parts in Phoenix, AZ, to check out the huge inventory of 5000+ collector cars just waiting to donate clean parts to your next project.

Desert Valley Auto Parts maintains a large selection of 1950s through 1980s cars in 3 major lots, plus they have some complete cars for sale. Since they’re in the old parts business, you don’t have to worry about them crushing cars for scrap steel. They also respect the parts and know the proper ways to disassemble the cars.

The dry desert climate keeps these old cars from rusting, and the sheetmetal and trim will survive for years unless someone crushes them. DVAP stocks all American makes, and we found plenty of Ford, GM, and Mopar musclecars and desireable parts.

The easiest way to seek out a part at DVAP is to check out their website to www.dvap.com and go through the online inventory of cars and parts. They have pictures of many of their cars, and more cars and pictures are being added daily. Then, order online or call them up to get what you need shipped to your door.

If you find yourself in the Phoenix area, go take a tour of the yard. DVAP allows people to walk through and check out the parts… it’s a fun way to attend a car show without the annoying oldies DJ and obnoxious people touching your car. The only difference is that these cars represent acres of potential, not finished rides.
