1000 horsepower used to be a huge deal... you needed and extremely large displacement engine with and insane compression ratio and a monster power adder to pull it off. And when you did it, you basically had yourself a tempramental race-only motor that was only good for 1/4 mile passes.
Today, the guys at Fast TImes Motorworks proved that 1000 horsepower can be a livable power level in a daily-driven street motor, without sacrificing drivability or street manners.
Starting with a Dart big block Chevy displacing 598 cubic inches, this low-compression monster makes big power thanks to proper part selection and a Vortech supercharger blowing through a carburator.
"The only secrets in this motor are the cam specs" claims Fast Times General Manager, Graham Jones. "The machine work obvisouly has to be right, and the part selection is critical, but this is a motor that we can build for customers all day long without anything exotic."
Jones added that the supercharger "acts like a seditive" for this engine, as it idles in the mid-700 RPM range and doesn't get hot doing it. But when the hammer goes down, you better hang on. Fast Times reports 1000HP and 948 foot-lbs of torque, all made from gas straight from the 93 octane pump.
Fast Times will gladly provide more details on this street fighter on their website...Fast Times Motorworks.
