Yeah, it’s bad. The amazing part is that we drove this car for a whole week without going to jail!

Ford calls the 2007 Shelby GT500 the most powerful factory mustang ever built. And they’re right. The supercharged 5.4 liter V8 starts off as a Triton iron truck block, then the Ford engineers add a specially-machined set of 4-valve aluminum GT Supercar heads, a special cam, and a roots-type supercharger for a grand total of 500 horsepower. And it's a usable 500hp, with 480 foot-pounds of torque seemingly whenever you want it. Pick a gear, mat the throttle, and hang on.

Add to that the Tremec 6060 6-speed manual trans, a comfortable but strong clutch, special sway bars, 3:30 gears, Goodyear F1 Supercar tires on 18’s, and you’ve got a tremendously fun car.

And it’s livable! No crazy shaking cam, no stupidly-loud exhaust, just a car you can beat on all day long with no problems. Who’d of thought that you could sell a legit 500hp monster to the general public and still meet federal emissions requirements?

Inside, you’ll find a couple Shelby mods, (they switched the tach / speedo placement in the dash for better tach visibility), but it’s nice and subtle.  Of course, the subtlety goes away with the exterior stripes and the bright colors, but a Shelby needs to stand out. You can get the ragtop version without the LeMans stripes over the top, but we like the coupe with the stripes. Our advice? Go buy one. Or at least borrow one. They’re kick-ass cars!
