The best-of-the-best brought their latest creations to the 11th Good-Guys PPG Nationals in Columbus, OH to compete in the Air Ride Technologies “Street Machine of the Year” contest. This year the event was more than a beauty pageant. For the first time, the entries were required to make at least 3 passes through the autocross course. Even though the times were not being officially scored for the competition, most of the drivers were pushing their cars hard. The style points earned in the autocross, however, did have some impact on the judges’ choices for the top five.

At the end of the contest the “Razor”1969 Camaro owned by Erv Roller and built by the Ring Brothers of Spring Green, Wisconsin, received top honors. This was an unprecedented second year in a row that a Ring Brothers car was chosen above all the rest, last year’s car being a 1967 Mustang. The build quality of the car was top notch and featured numerous custom touches including a great deal of carbon fiber work.

This year’s contest featured the largest field in the award’s history with 28 cars participating. With the positive response from the addition of the autocross at this year’s event, we’re certain the 2009 Street Machine of the Year will have even more emphasis on performance.
