Montey Berney's 1955 Chevy Pro Street race car - it's big, bad, and damn fast!

Fans of street car drag racing will instantly recognize Montey Berney’s 1955 Chevy as a new version of Big Bertha, the car that put Berney on the map back in the early 1990’s. Berney’s latest ’55 is a supercharged Pro Street race machine, but it could easily pass for a super-clean show car as well.

Berney’s ’55 is an all steel car, save for a fiberglass hood and decklid. Berney built this car in steel because that’s the way he likes ‘em. The door and body gaps are nearly perfect, and the dark blue / white 2-tone paint scheme is true to Chevy’s original design. No crazy stripes and graphics needed to distinguish this shoebox, it’s stance, fit, and performance make it instantly recognizable.

The interior features a stock steel dash, but the rest of the inside reveals the NHRA 26-2-D roll cage, certifying this car to run the quarter mile in the 6 second range at over 200 miles per hour. Powering the ’55 is a 14-71 blown big block Chevy motor making enough power to run the number, but Berney’s reglar passes fall in the low 7 second range.

“The 6’s are only one race away” Berney told V8TV’s Nick Scavo at the Pacific Street Car Association’s World Finals in Las Vegas, NV. Look for Berney’s clean ’55 at PSCA and other street car shootouts around the country.
